CCCU Statement on Passage of One Big, Beautiful Bill Act
July 3, 2025
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) represents more than 170 Christian institutions of higher education. The passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act marks a significant shift in higher education policy that will impact students and institutions for years to come. While we appreciate several of the bill’s positive elements and potential benefits, we are concerned that it ultimately falls short in supporting student access and success. The emphasis on earnings as a measure of value risks penalizing students who pursue lower-paying public service roles—many of whom do so out of a deep sense of faith and calling. As implementation begins, the CCCU remains committed to supporting our institutions and advocating for policies that reflect the holistic value of higher education, including service, character formation, and contributions to the common good.
We will provide more information about institutional impact for members in future communications.
The One Big, Beautiful Bill as amended in the Senate passed the House of Representatives on Thursday, July 3 with a vote of 218-214.
