CCCU Announces Senior Fellow to Advance Leadership, Governance, and Institutional Strategy
April 13, 2026
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) today announced the appointment of Ron Mahurin, PhD, as Senior Fellow for Leadership, Governance, and Institutional Strategy, effective July 1, 2026.
At a time when CCCU institutions are navigating significant demographic, financial, and cultural change, this newly created role will help advance the CCCU’s commitment to mission-centered leadership, governance, and institutional strategy across its network. Mahurin’s work will include supporting leadership development for presidents and senior leadership teams, strengthening board and governance practices, and address questions of institutional strategy, sustainability, and long-term viability.
“Ron brings a rare combination of deep experience, trusted leadership, and a profound understanding of the mission and challenges of Christian higher education,” said CCCU President David A. Hoag. “His long-standing relationships across our network and his expertise in governance, strategy, and leadership development will be a significant asset to our member institutions during a time of rapid change, complexity, and opportunity.”
Mahurin brings more than four decades of experience in Christian higher education and mission-driven nonprofit leadership, including prior service with the CCCU in two senior roles. Previously, he served as Vice President for Professional Development and Research, overseeing leadership development initiatives and research programs serving more than 170 member institutions worldwide and securing more than $4.5 million in foundation support for CCCU projects.
“I am deeply honored to serve the CCCU in this role at a pivotal time for Christian higher education,” Mahurin said in response to the appointment. “Our institutions are navigating significant change, but they are also uniquely positioned to form students for lives of faith, service, and leadership. I look forward to coming alongside presidents, boards, and leadership teams across the CCCU network as they strengthen mission, governance, and long-term institutional sustainability.”
Currently, Mahurin serves as President of The Mahurin Group LLC and as a Senior Consultant with Design Group International, a firm specializing in process consulting and organizational change leadership. He has also held senior leadership roles with Stamats, a national higher education consulting firm, leading strategic planning, market studies, and academic program analyses for more than seventy colleges and universities.
Mahurin’s campus leadership experience includes service as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at Houghton College (New York), where he led comprehensive academic program review and sustainability initiatives that generated more than $4 million in annual revenue enhancement and cost savings. He also held faculty and advancement leadership roles at Gordon College (Massachusetts) and Westmont College (California).
In his new role, Mahurin will partner closely with CCCU leadership and member institutions to strengthen governance, leadership capacity, and the long-term vitality and witness of Christian higher education.
