2024 Leadership Development Institute

Overview
The Leadership Development Institute (LDI) encourages emerging male and female leaders from CCCU institutions to pursue broader leadership responsibilities through a year-long mentorship program. From June 10-14, 2024, approximately 20-25 emerging leaders will gather at Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center (located near the Canadian border in Sumas, WA).
The LDI will include the following components:
- A year-long leadership development program that begins with the LDI at Cedar Springs
- An individually tailored “shadowing” experience of 2-3 days with a senior-level leader on another CCCU campus
- Professional networking with current and emerging leaders
- Discussion of cutting-edge leadership issues
- A one-on-one meeting with a Resource Team member to outline a year-long Professional Development Plan
- Opportunities to interact about Leadership Lessons, Case Studies, and Best Practices from within and beyond Christian higher education
Those interested in participating in the 2024 Leadership Development Institute must apply. Preference will be given to applicants who: (1) hold a doctorate or are actively considering/pursuing doctoral studies; (2) are recognized as “up-and-comers” with demonstrated leadership skills and the potential for future senior-level leadership; (3) provide evidence of increasing levels of leadership responsibility within and/or beyond higher education. The application deadline is March 8, 2024. However, we encourage participants to submit their materials before the deadline.
Fees & Location
Accommodations, materials, and all meals are included in the registration fee.
All-Inclusive Registration Fee – $1,500
This registration fee includes all-inclusive lodging (single room) and meals at Cedar Springs, transportation to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), materials, and program costs. Upon acceptance to the LDI, you will be required to immediately complete registration and pay the all-inclusive fee.
The entire workshop program will take place at the Cedar Springs Retreat Center. The closest airport to the Cedar Springs facility is Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) International Airport (SEA). A charter bus will transport participants to and from Sea-Tac airport only. Participants must arrange their own transportation from any other airport. Accommodations, materials, and all meals are included in the registration fee. Accepted applicants can select from single-occupancy accommodations or double-occupancy accommodations.

Dr. Meghan Griffin
Dr. Meghan Griffin
Originally established as SEU’s provost and chief academic officer in 2021, Dr. Meghan Griffin serves the university through executive leadership and management of academic programs and deliveries across the SEU network of campuses as well as student success, library services, honors, and academic partnership initiatives. As provost, Griffin ensures that all academic resources and collegiate objectives align with SEU’s mission, vision and strategic plan.
Griffin first joined the university in 2017 as the academic dean of unrestricted education. Prior to that, she served in extension campuses at Palm Beach Atlantic University for seven years and served as a faculty member and department chair in Florida’s public state college system for six years. Griffin has received a Ph.D. in texts and technology from the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Jill Hartness
Dr. Jill Hartness
Jill Hartness serves as the CCCU’s Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer. In this role, Jill supports President Shirley V. Hoogstra and the existing development team to lead a strategy to raise the CCCU profile, widen the circle of foundations and friends who love the mission of the CCCU and expand fundraising overall. Prior to joining the CCCU, she served as Head of School at the Boyd Buchanan School (BBS) and secured the first multi-million-dollar gift in the school’s history. She is a graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas.
Dr. Janet B. Sommers
Dr. Janet B. Sommers
Since January 2010, Janet Sommers has served at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (SVPAA) and as Provost since September 2020. In these roles, Sommers has facilitated the deepening of shared governance and the expansion of academic programs, launching multiple bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Sommers served on the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) CAO Commission for six years, chairing it for two. She is passionate about developing aspiring leaders and has served on the resource team for numerous CCCU Leadership Development Institutes. Sommers earned a bachelor’s degree in English education from Gwynedd-Mercy College, a master’s degree in English from the University of Toledo, and a doctoral degree in English from the University of Minnesota. Sommers currently serves on the Presbyterian Homes & Services Board of Directors and the Daystar University US Board. She and her husband Daniel reside in New Brighton, Minnesota.
Dr. André Stephens
Dr. André Stephens
Dr. André Stephens has 30 years of experience in Christian higher education in California and is currently President of Fresno Pacific University. Prior to his presidency, Dr. Stephens served as vice president for student development at Biola University, a post to which he was appointed in 2016. Serving in this cabinet-level role, he led a team that provided authentic, meaningful learning experiences to foster the Christian character of students through areas such as spiritual development and chapel programs, athletics, new student orientation and community life, comprising the offices of Housing and Residence Life, Student Care, Global Student Programs and Development, Commuter Life, Campus Engagement, the Student Health Center, the Learning Center and Student Government.
Rev. Dr. Angulus Wilson
Rev. Dr. Angulus Wilson
Rev. Dr. Angulus Dion Wilson, Ph.D., D.Min., is a dedicated servant of Christ with a profound calling to guide students in their personal relationship with Jesus. With three decades of experience in both national and international ministry, Dr. Wilson’s passion for ministry has led him to establish congregations throughout North America.
As a university chaplain and church planter, he has made significant contributions to the Christian community. Dr. Wilson’s academic journey is equally impressive, with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Fresno Pacific University, master’s degrees in spiritual formation leadership and evangelism from Wheaton College and Birmingham Theological Seminary, and doctorate degrees from Ecclesia University of Divinity and Azusa Pacific University.
Driven by his commitment to nurturing disciples and preparing students for the work of ministry, Dr. Wilson takes the initiative to create international Bible schools, organize conferences, and host seminars to equip leaders for Christian service. He has generously offered his expertise to institutions like Wheaton College, Samford University, Fresno Pacific University, and Warner Pacific University.
