Inclusive Teaching
Inclusive teaching encompasses a plethora of distinctions, but the resources on this page focus primarily on ethnicity, culture, and gender. Inclusive teaching strategies apply to the classroom climate, course and syllabus contents, and the management of class discussions.
In keeping with their missions, Christian institutions endeavor to prepare men and women from ALL cultural backgrounds and to prepare ALL students to serve and lead effectively in an inclusive society. The faculty development challenges associated with achieving this goal relate to content development and teacher preparation. For teachers to infuse multiple cultural perspectives and gender equity into their course content, they need discipline-specific resources that present this full range of perspectives. For teachers to adapt their teaching styles and classroom management skills, they need resources and learning opportunities that shape attitudes and values.
How do teachers develop the range of interpretive lenses that promote integrated perspectives and provide a welcoming climate for all students in class? The links below offer practical suggestions and resources.
