Art and design programs are growing on campuses of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities/CCCU. In cooperation with the national organization, Christians and the Visual Arts/CIVA (Wenham, MA), Dr. Karen J. Sangren, Chair, Department of Art and Design, Point Loma Nazarene University, directed a research team of five CCCU art/design department chairs. They completed work in fall 2010 on the 2010 CCCU/CIVA National Status Report of Art and Design Programs, a distinct and unprecedented three-year study of current CCCU art and design programs. Printed copies of the report were distributed to every CCCU campus. An online format on the CCCU website now follows in summer 2011.
Also serving on the Status Report leadership team were Cameron Anderson, Executive Director of Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA), and Dr. Jeffrey Grubbs, Chair, Division of Visual Arts, Roberts Wesleyan College, NY. Sangren and her team gathered qualitative and quantitative data through online research, site-visit interviews, and two national online surveys.
[Sangren] has coordinated CCCU art/design department chairs with our national organization of professional Christian artists [CIVA], said Dr. Wayne L. Roosa, Chair of Bethel Universitys Department of Art and the New York Center for Art & Media Studies/NYCAMS. That coordination will also bear enormous fruit because she is helping tie together and create a network of art-making and creative people in a new way.
