Scholarly Planning Grants Application Information 

Application Information
Each application for a Scholarly Planning Grant shall consist of the following:
  • A title for a proposed research theme.
  • A listing of members of the Planning Team, with academic affiliations.
  • A three-four page narrative identifying the theme that is to be addressed, the level of interest of the academy in that theme, the ways in which the proposed research will be informed by a Christian perspective, the qualifications for this particular team to address this theme, and expectations for eventual dissemination of research results to the larger academy.
  • A one paragraph abstract from the narrative focusing on the nature of the theme in the context of the academy’s interest in that theme.
  • A plan for designing a research project and developing a grant proposal for the project, including projected means for planning team interaction (e.g., a meeting or two).
  • A budget breakdown for the expenditure of the $2,500 grant.
  • A curriculum vita for each member of the Planning Team, with a maximum length of five pages per vita (including those activities and publications judged to be most pertinent to the proposed research theme).
All requested materials must be received by February 16, 2009. Please mail an original and seven stapled photocopies to the program Office. The following will not be accepted: faxed materials; electronic applications; late applications; incomplete applications.


Awards will be announced by April 15, 2009. The schedule of grant payments will be as follows:

  • $2,000 by May 15, 2009, after completion of a grant agreement form.
  • $500 by May 15, 2010, after completion of a final report.

Funds will be sent to the Business Office of the home institution of the Project Director, and that institution will serve as the fiscal agent during the one-year term of the grant (with responsibilities indicated in a grant agreement).
