WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Board of Directors for the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities approved five institutions for full membership and two institutions as affiliates at the annual Board meeting in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 26-29.
Previously CCCU affiliates, Toccoa Falls College (GA), University of the Southwest (NM), Bluefield College (VA) and San Diego Christian College (CA) were approved for membership. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) also was approved for membership.
The Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (NC) and William & Catherine Booth College (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) were approved as CCCU affiliates.
The approvals bring the total of the CCCU membership to 180 institutions: 110 members and 70 affiliates, representing 24 countries. These institutions are the first new members since 2005 to be added to the membership.
Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) is a 2,800-student liberal arts college in Belton, TX. As said in their mission statement, UMHB “prepares students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society. Academic excellence, personal attention, broad-based scholarship and a commitment to a Baptist vision for education distinguish our Christ-centered learning community.”
Toccoa Falls College (GA) was founded in 1907 and is affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. Their mission is to “glorify God through seeking and developing Christian servant leaders who will impact their world with the love and message of Jesus Christ.”
Founded in 1962, the University of the Southwest (NM) is a four-year liberal arts college created to minister to the southeastern New Mexico/West Texas region. Currently serving 550 students, the University aims to be “a Christ-centered educational community dedicated to developing men and women for a lifetime of servant leadership by emphasizing individual faith, responsibility, and initiative.”
Formerly Christian Heritage College, San Diego Christian College (CA) is a Southern Baptist-affiliated liberal arts college, offering 15 major programs. As stated in its mission statement, SDCC seeks to “engage Christians in an academic community that offers a liberal arts education, promotes an environment of scholarship, and fosters the examination of truth, preparing them to influence the world through godly character within a framework of the authority and inerrancy of Scripture.”
Located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Bluefield College (VA) is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia. As a college, Bluefield “seeks to provide personalized opportunities for growth of mind, body, and spirit within a solid Christian context.”
In addition to the four member institutions, two institutions were admitted as affiliates. Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is located in Wake Forest, NC and is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and William & Catherine Booth College is affiliated with the Salvation Army and is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of 180 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world. There are now 110 member campuses in North America and are fully-accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 70 affiliate campuses from 24 countries are part of the CCCU. The Council's mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help its institutions transform lives by faithfull relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.
