Central University College, an educational initiative of the International Central Gospel Church and the largest private university in Ghana, is committed to the fulfillment of the Great Commission set forth by Jesus Christ in the Gospels. CUC aims to provide “an integrated and biblically-based tertiary education with particular reference to the needs of the African continent.” CUC’s emphasis is on “producing devout, well-grounded leaders, executives, analysts and entrepreneurs who will meet the challenges of our time and serve as a positive influence in our society.”

From its new permanent campus in Miotso, located near Tema about 36 miles from Central Accra, as well as from several campuses in Accra, CUC serves 10,000 students. CUC President Victor P.Y. Gadzekpo says he is excited by the new opportunities offered by the establishment and development of the new permanent campus.

The university’s mission is to raise virtuous and transformational leaders. One of the ways it does this is through the life development courses that are required each year and directly impact the lives of CUC students. In these courses students study books such as Mere Christianity and discuss them in small groups where each student is encouraged to apply the lessons to his/her life.

CUC is the only university in Ghana that requires students to complete a community service project in order to graduate. Projects include such activities as teaching in a village, volunteering at a hospital, assisting local women, and mentoring children. Additionally, CUC has adopted the public school in Miotso, the village from which CUC purchased land for their new campus. CUC provides teachers as needed and is building a library for the school.

CUC opened in 1988 as a short-term pastoral training institute and grew through several name changes to become a liberal arts university. It took on its current name in 1997. Out of all its program offerings, CUC’s business program attracts the greatest number of students. CUC is the only Christian university in Ghana offering programs in applied science, such as bachelor’s degrees in nursing, civil engineering, architecture, physician assistantship and pharmacy.
