  • Southern Nazarene University (OK)
  • Roberts Wesleyan College (NY)
These scholarships will be awarded to junior or senior nursing majors and are to be distributed across the 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years.

In perpetuating the legacy of our deep roots in Christian healthcare, Christian nursing education continues to be a strong focus of the foundation, said Beth Brown, Vice President, Programs at Butterfield. The Butterfield Foundation is pleased to continue to provide support to students who seek a nursing curriculum that presents nursing as a ministry.

Butterfield Memorial Foundation was created in 2005, subsequent to the sale of Deaconess Hospital to a national healthcare corporation. The foundation remains active in Central Oklahoma, fulfilling the century-old Deaconess Hospital legacy of advocating for health needs of the underserved in our community. In concert with the Free Methodist Church of North America, the mission is now being fulfilled through a primary emphasis on direct access to free medical care as it is provided by Christian non-profits. Training in the delivery of Christian nursing care as a contributor to community health remains a strong priority of the foundation. The CCCU was pleased to facilitate the connection of our member campuses with the mission of Butterfield Memorial Foundation, says Nate Mouttet, CCCU vice president for communications. Our director of development & research, Lisa-Jo Baker, quickly encouraged our campuses to consider this opportunity and it has been exciting to see how campuses will be impacted by these grants.

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of 184 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world. There are now 109 member campuses in North America and all are fully-accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 75 affiliate campuses from 24 countries are part of the CCCU. The Councils mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help its institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.
