CCCU Supports the 2010 National Campus Voter Registration Project

May 14, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) supports the 2010 National Campus Voter Registration Project, which is being spearheaded by the National Association of Independent Colleges & Universities (NAICU). Nearly 50 other higher education associations join the CCCU in supporting the project, also known as the Your Vote, Your Voice campaign, which is designed to encourage college students to participate in the 2010 elections.

I urge our campuses to support this national non-partisan effort encouraging students to register to vote and participate in the election process, says CCCU President Paul Corts. Our campuses have a special motivation for participation as our Lord demonstrated a respect for government authority and encouraged His followers to be faithful in their civic responsibilities. Our campuses seek to transform lives of students instilling a servant heart that impact the world for good, and surely the political process is a very important way they can do that.

Since the 2008 campaign, the new Higher Education Act has removed the requirement that colleges request printed voter registration forms from their state election office, and clarifies that colleges may fulfill the good-faith distribution requirement by sending students electronic links to the appropriate voter registration forms.

The co-chairs of the 2010 National Campus Voter Registration Project are NAICU President David Warren, American Association of State Colleges and Universities President Muriel Howard, and Council of Independent Colleges President Richard Ekman.

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of 184 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world. There are now 109 member campuses in North America and all are fully-accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 75 affiliate campuses from 24 countries are part of the CCCU. The Councils mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help its institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.
