WASHINGTON, D.C. Shapri LoMaglio has joined the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) as the new government relations and executive programs director. In this position, LoMaglio is responsible for tracking federal and state legislation, regulations, and court cases relative to higher education in general but primarily as it relates to Christian higher education and the mission and work of the Council and its member and affiliate institutions. She also provides assistance to the CCCU President Paul Corts with various professional development programs for member and affiliate presidents and board members.
LoMaglio earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from Gordon College (MA) and a juris doctor from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law (2007). LoMaglio is licensed to practice law in Arizona. Prior to coming to the CCCU, she worked in government contract litigation in Washington, D.C. Previous experience also includes Rusing & Lopez, PLLC, Tucson, Ariz., the United States Attorneys Office District of Arizona, Tucson office, and the U.S. Senate, where she was a Legal Fellow for Senator Jon Kyls Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology, and Homeland Security.
LoMaglios main functions for the government relations arm of the CCCU include:
- Monitoring relevant regulatory, political, and judicial developments and representing or supporting the organization in responding to them.
- Participating in relevant policy debates and development; positioning the Council as thought leader; developing relations with relevant Congressional and Executive Departments of government as well as NGOs, educational organizations, and other stakeholders interested in similar policy issues.
- Preparing supporting material on policies and issues for the Council generally and the President specifically.
- Working with member schools to establish and maintain contacts with relevant campus based leaders on government relations and subject specific issues.
- Preparing and delivering presentations and speeches to promote the position of the Council to members and affiliates, government and NGO entities as appropriate to the issues.
- Maintaining relationships with Congressional offices, agency staff members, and others positioned to assist with public policy education and advocacy on topics important to our movement.
As the executive programs director, LoMaglio will also provide support for:
- The annual Presidents Conference, New Presidents Institute, Governance Institute, and Mentoring Program for New Presidents.
- Development, implementation and operation of the CCCU Board Development Curriculum Project.
- Development, implementation and operation of the CCCU National Conference for Board Members.
Filling this position greatly strengthens the Councils ability to serve our member campuses through enhanced public policy work and an expansion in executive programs for presidents, board members and senior executives specific goals in our strategic Blueprint for the Future, said Corts.
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of 184 intentionally Christ-centered institutions around the world. There are now 109 member campuses in North America and all are fully-accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 75 affiliate campuses from 24 countries are part of the CCCU.
