
Dozens of sports teams hailing from CCCU schools have achieved national post-season honors this year, including several championship titles. Azusa Pacific University (CA) Both the mens and womens basketball teams came in second at their respective NAIA championship games. The Los Angeles Times honored the teams
in this article on March 25. Other accomplishments include:
- Womens Soccer advanced to the NAIA Tournament semifinals
- Womens Cross Country finished fifth in the NAIA Championship Meet
- Mens Indoor Track & Field won the NAIA Championship Meet
- Womens Indoor Track & Field finished fourth at the NAIA Championship Meet
- Womens Swimming & Diving finishing sixth at the NAIA Championship Meet
Biola University (CA) Eight of Biolas athletic teams played in national post-season competitions. They are listed below with their standings:
- Women's Cross Country - NAIA 2nd Place
- Men's Soccer - NAIA quarterfinals
- Volleyball - NAIA National Tournament
- Men's Basketball - NAIA quarterfinals
- Women's Basketball - NAIA First Round
- Women's Indoor Track and Field - NAIA 5th Place
- Men's Swimming - NAIA 9th Place
- Women's Swimming - NAIA 7th Place
Bluffton University (OH) Bluffton Universitys womens volleyball team went to the 1st round of the NCAA DIII regional tournament.
Bryan College (TN) The Bryan College men's cross country program finished 27th at the NAIA Cross Country National Championship.
The mens soccer team competed in the 2009 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round after winning the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Bryan College womens volleyball team made it to the NCCAA National Championship Semifinals after receiving an at-large bid.
Six members of the Bryan College Track & Field team competed at the Men's NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship.
California Baptist University (CA) Teams from California Baptist placed as follows in the NAIA post-season competitions:
- Womens Soccer NAIA Quarterfinals
- Womens Volleyball NAIA Quarterfinals
- Mens Cross Country one runner in the national championships
- Mens Soccer Conference Tournament first round
- Mens Basketball Conference Tournament first round
- Mens Swimming/Diving NAIA Runners-Up
- Womens Swimming/Diving NAIA Runners-Up
- Wrestling NAIA 8th place
Baseball, softball, golf and mens volleyball are all still to be determined.
Calvin College (MI) The Calvin men's soccer team finished second in the NCAA III Tournament this year, reaching the national title game in San Antonio, Texas. Calvin was defeated by Messiah College 2-0 in the final game. In addition, our women's soccer team reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament, our volleyball team reached the second round of the NCAA III Tournament and our women's cross country team finished third at the
NCAA III Championships.
During the winter sports season, our women's basketball team reached the NCAA III Tournament for the first time in four years. Calvin was led by freshman center Carissa Verkaik who was
named the Division III Freshman of the Year by d3hoops.com.

captured the NCAA III indoor track and field title in the 400 meters on March 13.
Calvin as an athletics program currently sits in 2nd place in the Division III Director's Cup Standings. Calvin is also one of the top D3 schools in the country since the year 2000 for academic all-American honorees.
Covenant College (GA) Covenant College teams made it to the following levels of post-season play:
- Womens Soccer: NCCAA National Tournament semifinals
- Men's Soccer: NCCAA National Tournament semifinals
- Women's Cross Country: Placed 8th of 19 teams at NCCAA national championship race
- Women's Basketball: NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament first round
- Men's Basketball: NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament first round
- Men's Golf: Fall- Individuals Competed at NCCAA National Tournament, placed 14th, 57th, and 63rd
Dordt College (IA) The Dordt College hockey team reached the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) Division III National Tournament for the third year in a row. They were eliminated from the 16-team field at the conclusion of pool play.
George Fox University (OR) The womens basketball team, the Bruins, were the defending NCAA Division III national champions, having gone 32-0 in 2008-09, and this year made their seventh post-season appearance in 11 years of NCAA eligibility. The Bruins defeated Louisiana College and Puget Sound in the West Regional at George Fox, then defeated Carthage in the Sweet 16 in St. Louis, Mo., before falling 59-52 to Washington-St. Louis in the Elite 8. Wash U. was the team the Bruins beat in the 09 national championship game, and this year, after eliminating George Fox, the Bears went on to defeat Hope for the national title, so the Bruins were knocked out this year by the eventual champions. George Fox finished with a 28-3 overall record and was ranked No. 8 in the final national polls.
Greenville College (IL) The mens soccer team advanced to the NCCAA national tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., as an at-large selection and the No. 2 seeded team.
GC Senior Edgar Townsend raced to an NCAA Division III National Championship in the 55-meter hurdles.
Mens indoor track and field placed 18th in NCAA Division III.
Houghton College (NY) The womens soccer team played in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament; they lost to #11 Indiana Wesleyan University.
Huntington University (IN) The Huntington University womens basketball team played one game in the NAIA Div-II National Championship. It was their second consecutive appearance.
Indiana Wesleyan University (IN) The teams that competed in national tournaments for Indiana Wesleyan University this season are:
- Mens Basketball: NAIA Division II Elite Eight (Quarterfinals)
- Womens Basketball: NAIA Division II Final Four (Semifinals)
- Mens Cross Country: finished 3rd at NCCAA National Championships
- Womens Cross Country: finished 18th at NAIA National Championships and 3rd at NCCAA National Championships
- Mens Golf: finished 6th at NCCAA National Championship
- Mens Soccer: 2nd at NCCAA National Championship
- Womens Soccer: NAIA National Championship Round of 16
- Mens Indoor Track and Field: 1st at NCCAA National Championship and 38th at NAIA National Championships
- Womens Indoor Track and Field: 3rd at NCCAA National Championship
Mens and Womens Tennis have each qualified for the NAIA National Championships which will be contested in mid-May and Mens and Womens Outdoor Track and Field will compete in the NAIA National Championships, hosted by IWU at the end of May.
John Brown University (AR) The mens basketball team won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, and made it to the quarterfinal round of the National Tournament.
Judson University (IL) The mens soccer team won the NCCAA National Championship, while the womens soccer team came in third at the NCCAA National Championship.
The mens basketball team earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship.
Womens cross country runners Rachael Dean and Kim Peek both ran at both the NAIA and NCCAA National meets.
Lee University (TN) Lees mens soccer team advanced to the National Tournament, where they were put out in a close first-round match against Lindsey Wilson College, ranked No. 1 by the NAIA at that time. The womens soccer team won the National Championship for the second consecutive year.
The volleyball team went to the Final Four of the National Tournament, a first for the volleyball team.
Mens basketball made the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament, and womens basketball went to the Final Four of the NAIA National Tournament for the first time.
The Masters College (CA) Both mens and womens soccer teams reached nationals. The women won the NCCAA National Tournament while the men were NAIA national runners-up.
Malone University (OH) Malones volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round of the NCCAA National Tournament.
The mens cross country team finished in 1st place in the NCCAA National Championship Meet, and 1st in the NAIA National Championship Meet.
The womens cross country team finished 2nd in the NCCAA National Championship Meet, and 3rd in the NAIA National Championship Meet.
The mens golf team finished 2nd at the NCCAA National Championships.
The womens swimming & diving team qualified for and competed at NAIA National Championships in the 200 yd Freestyle Relay.
Womens track & field sent athletes to the NAIA Indoor National Meet, but did not receive a team score.
Mens Track & Field team finished 5th at the NAIA Indoor National Meet.
Messiah College (PA) Several Messiah teams have played or placed in the following competitions:
- Field Hockey: NCAA Division III National Runner-up
- Men's Soccer: NCAA Division III National Champions
- Women's Soccer: NCAA Division III National Champions
- Women's Basketball: advanced to NCAA Division III National Tournament
- Women's Indoor Track and Field: sixth at NCAA National Championships (Kristen Bates)
- Women's Lacrosse: NCAA Division III National Tournament participant - lost in 1st Round
- Softball: NCAA Division III National Champions
Milligan College (TN) Milligan men nabbed a 12th place finish at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships, while the women ended the meet 17th overall.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University (OH) The women's soccer team earned its first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round before falling to the eventual national champion. The men's soccer team came one win away from advancing to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the second straight year and instead went 2-1 at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament.
The women's volleyball team finished as the national runner-up at the NCCAA National Tournament, while the women's basketball team grabbed a third-place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament.
Northwestern College (IA) The womens basketball team
won the NAIA Div. II national championship for the third time since 2001, and Earl Woudstra was named the national coach of the year.
The volleyball team advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight for the third year in a row.
The wrestling team placed 19th at the NAIA national meet. The college had nine national qualifiers, and two received All-American honors: Nic Leither, 4th at 197 pounds, and Levi Price, 8th at 149 pounds.
Northwestern College (MN) The mens basketball team won the NCCAA Division I national championship for the first time in Northwestern Eagles history.
Oklahoma Baptist University (OK) OBUs mens basketball team won the NAIA Division I championship, while the womens basketball team advanced to second round at NAIA Division I championship tournament.
The womens team won the NAIA Indoor Track and Field championship and the men finished third at NAIA Indoor Track and Field championship meet.
At the NAIA Cross Country championship meet, the mens team finished 15th and the womens team finished 22nd.
Olivet Nazarene University (IL) Mens cross country came in 11th, their best finish ever as a program, in the NAIA National Championship.
Women's cross country came in 7th in the NCCAA national meet. Two runners competed in the NAIA national cross country meet.
Both womens volleyball and soccer teams finished the year strong with the volleyball team advancing to their fourth straight NAIA national tournament and the soccer team competing for the National Christian College Athletic Association national championship for the second year in a row. The mens soccer team appeared for the first time in the NAIA National Championship.
The mens basketball team played in the first round of the NAIA Division 1 National Championship tournament.
The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honored Olivet Nazarene University head men's basketball coach Ralph Hodge, by naming him a co-winner of the 2010 IBCA NAIA Division I Coach of the Year.
Seattle Pacific University (WA) Women's volleyball and womens soccer teams both played in NCAA qualifier games but lost in the first round.
The women's cross country team won 4th place at NCAAs;
Jessica Pixler won third straight individual title.
The women's basketball team played in the NCAA Elite Eight, losing in the quarterfinals.
Men's basketball also played in an NCAA qualifier game but lost in first round.
Women's indoor track team earned 7th place at NCAAs, won distance medley relay, and Jessica Pixler won fourth straight mile title.
The women's gymnastics team qualified for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships, but did not place.
Southwest Baptist University (MO) Mens cross country qualified for the first time this year for the NCAA postseason national meet. SBU's Michael McCampbell received the new NCAA Elite 88 award for the highest GPA among the competing athletes. The NCAA presents the award at each of their 88 championships.
Taylor University (IN) Womens basketball earned an at-large berth in the NAIA nationals in Sioux City, Iowa, for the third time in the past four years.
The volleyball team went to the national tournament where they advanced from pool play making them one of the nations top 12 teams.
Of the 13 sports the NAIA ranks (and TU competes in), Taylor has had seven of the 13 reach the top 25 this year.
Union University (TN) Several athletic teams at Union University either won or placed at their championship games:
- Womens Cross Country One Individual Qualifier for NAIA Nationals
- Mens Cross Country Two Individual Qualifiers for NAIA Nationals
- Womens Basketball NAIA National Champions
- Mens Basketball NAIA Tournament #10 seed
- Softball, Baseball and Mens Golf are ranked or receiving votes in their respective NAIA national rankings.
