WASHINGTON, D.C.- The CCCU, under the direction and encouragement of its board of directors, has committed to supporting the work of Acting on AIDS and their efforts to inform and inspire our campuses. Acting on AIDS is a program started by Christian college students tocreate awareness and activism of the global AIDS pandemic at colleges and universities across the nation. With the support of World Vision, Christian college students have formed a network of Acting on AIDS chapters which seek to change hearts on campuses, create awareness in communities, and advocate for those impacted by the global AIDS pandemic.
The Acting on AIDS Fall Tour is officially under way. Several CCCU campuses will host a speaker from World Vision to address the global AIDS pandemic, the issue of social justice, and ways for campus communities to take action. Speakers have already visited John Brown University (AR) and Mid-America Nazarene University (KS) and were very well received by faculty, staff and students.
Presidents of CCCU campuses are encouraged to participate in two nationwide conference calls designed specifically for university leadership. The first call will help you prepare for World AIDS Day and the Lives are at Stake project. The second call will take place on World AIDS Day and will be a call to action.
Each call will consist of a diverse panel of speakers who represent fields such as politics, education, faith, international development and medicine. The goal of each call is to enrich your understanding not only of Acting on AIDS but of the global AIDS pandemic and other issues that exacerbate this crisis. Each call will take one hour, and an opportunity for questions will be provided. The dates and times of these calls are as follows:
- Thursday, Oct.19, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. PDT
- Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (World AIDS Day)
Interested campuses that would like to be a part of the call should contact either Kristie Dokes, Acting on AIDS Student Outreach Coordinator (kdokes@worldvision.org,) or CCCU Executive Vice President Rich Gathro (rgathro@cccu.org).
