About Christian Higher Education Month (CHEM)
When Christian Higher Education Month was introduced in October 1999, 95 members and 36 affiliates were brought together under the newly-named Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Bolstered by House Resolution 300, which declares October to be Christian Higher Education Month, the CCCU takes this time to celebrate the role of Christ-centered colleges in the history of America, as well as the personal and professional benefits of what campuses provide students. Click here to read the resolution.Tack on extensive participation of institutions in vocational programs such as Students in Free Enterprise, nearly half of CCCU campuses engaging in green initiatives, global partnerships, non-traditional forms of education, new research and development and robust recognition in several rankings systems, including 104 institutions ranked in the 2009 edition of the college rankings put forth by U.S. News & World Report and it’s easy to see the influence of CCCU institutions in higher education and the world at large.
In sheer numbers, the CCCU and Christian Higher Education is growing and thriving. With the addition of five new members in July, the association stands at 110 members and 70 affiliates, including representation from 24 nations. More than 400,000 students are enrolled in CCCU member and affiliate institutions, with more than 20,000 faculty and nearly 1.6 million alumni.
