In cooperation with the national organization, Christians and the Visual Arts/CIVA (Wenham, MA), Dr. Karen J. Sangren, Chair, Department of Art and Design, Point Loma Nazarene University, directed a research team of five CCCU art/design department chairs. They completed work in fall 2010 on the 2010 CCCU/CIVA National Status Report of Art and Design Programs, a distinct and unprecedented three-year study of current CCCU art and design programs. Printed copies of the report were distributed to every CCCU campus. An online format on the CCCU website now follows in summer 2011.

Also serving on the Status Report leadership team were Cameron Anderson, Executive Director of Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA), and Dr. Jeffrey Grubbs, Chair, Division of Visual Arts, Roberts Wesleyan College, NY. Sangren and her team gathered qualitative and quantitative data through online research, site-visit interviews, and two national online surveys.

[Sangren] has coordinated CCCU art/design department chairs with our national organization of professional Christian artists [CIVA], said Dr. Wayne L. Roosa, Chair of Bethel Universitys Department of Art and the New York Center for Art & Media Studies/NYCAMS. That coordination will also bear enormous fruit because she is helping tie together and create a network of art-making and creative people in a new way.

What is a Christ-centered College or University

By David L. McKenna

If you want to start a vigorous debate ask the question, "What do we mean by a Christ-centered college or university?" Organizational psychologists, even those who are committed Christians, will differ. Some will say that an organization is an organization, whether secular or religious. Others will be equally firm in contending that the name is needed to define the distinctive character of faith-based colleges and universities. Both parties agree, however, that any institution carrying the name of "Christ" must meet the same high ethical standards, sound structure, and viable strategy that apply to any organization. But, once this common base is accepted, we must still answer the question, "What do we mean by a Christ-centered college or university?" A brief review of the nature of organizations will help us answer the question.

CCCU 2010 Salary Report

CCCU Podcast with Gayle Lemmon

CCCU 2010 RA Financial Aid Survey

Copy of CCCU Member Enrollment 2006

Concerns regarding the Department of Education "Program Integrity Issues" regulations

Integrating Justice through Course Design: A Report from Uganda Christian University Faculty of Law

Integrating aspects of justice into curriculum is a welcome and necessary challenge for Christian course designers. This is especially true in the case of legal education in the developing world. The Faculty of Law at Uganda Christian University incorporates Biblical justice principles into its courses in various ways ranging from the practical to the theoretical. This paper is a survey of the justice education strategies and techniques employed within four course subjects offered to law students at Uganda Christian University: (1) Introduction to the Bible for Lawyers introduces the students to Gods heart for justice, presents a wide variety of justice issues from a Biblical context, and begins the justice conversation in the classroom though the use of simple and thought-provoking vignettes; (2) The Jurisprudence provides students with wide philosophical perspectives on the nature of justice that are assessed through a Christian lens; (3) Law and Christian Political Thought in Africa offers students an opportunity to test and apply theoretical approaches to justice to their present political environment through reading, writing, presenting and class discussion; (4) Clinical Legal Education allows students to act on justice principles through community outreach and clinical legal work dedicated to justice-based causes.

What We Meant For Good: Intentions and Consequences in Uganda

Non-governmental organizations, mission-sending agencies, and foreign aid programs often act with the best intentions and cause negative consequences. This phenomenon is especially pronounced in the context of "first world" efforts to positively impact societies in the developing world. For mission-minded Christians, the tragic failure of well-meaning efforts not only warrants careful reflection and Biblically grounded assessment. Uganda is a hub of cross-cultural efforts. The countrys receptiveness to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), openness to Christian missionaries, and dependence on foreign aid make it a prime case study in the exportation of good intentions. This essay is not a detailed study based on hard data. Instead, it is a collection of pertinent observations from two individuals who have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand, participating in, and learning from well-intentioned efforts across Uganda. In this paper, we suggest four typologies whereby the culture of external aid and assistance generates problems within the Ugandan context. The paper is structured according to each of these four typologies. The first section addresses the negative psychology and behavior that appears within a recipient culture. Secondly, we observe complications associated with the promotion of pro-poor economic models relating to land law and access to debt funding. The negative aspects of programmatic reconciliation form the focus of the third part, while the fourth critiques the use of Western style equality-based rights advocacy to champion womens rights. Each section concludes with Biblically grounded recommendations for a path forward.
